Medical professionals across India have raised concerns following Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor's recent social media post claiming people can 'become skinny in half a day' through specific weight loss methods. Health experts warn that such statements promote unhealthy expectations about body transformation and may encourage dangerous practices among impressionable followers.
Dr Rajesh Kumar, a senior nutritionist at Patna's Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, emphasised that sustainable weight loss requires time and proper medical guidance. 'There is no scientifically validated method to lose substantial weight within hours. Such claims can lead vulnerable individuals, particularly young women, towards crash dieting, dehydration tactics, or eating disorders,' he stated.
The incident highlights growing concerns about celebrity health advice reaching millions without professional oversight. According to the National Family Health Survey, Bihar already faces significant malnutrition challenges, with 22.9 per cent of women having low body mass index. Experts worry that unrealistic weight loss messaging could worsen existing health issues.
Health authorities recommend following guidelines from qualified medical practitioners rather than celebrity tips. The Indian Medical Association advises that healthy weight management involves balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and individualised medical consultation—processes that require weeks or months, not hours, to show sustainable results.
