NEW DELHI: The Ayushman Bharat programme has announced a significant expansion of its medical research division, with a focus on addressing healthcare challenges specific to rural India. The initiative will establish research centres across multiple states to study disease patterns, treatment outcomes, and preventive healthcare measures among beneficiaries.
The expanded research wing will collaborate with government medical colleges and public health institutions to analyse data from millions of beneficiaries enrolled under the scheme. The emphasis will be on developing cost-effective treatment protocols and identifying early intervention strategies for common ailments affecting underserved populations.
Health ministry officials indicated that the research framework will particularly examine maternal and child health outcomes, non-communicable diseases, and infectious disease management in remote areas. The data collected is expected to inform policy decisions and help optimize resource allocation within the public health system.
The research expansion comes as Ayushman Bharat continues to be one of the world's largest publicly funded health insurance programmes. Experts suggest that evidence-based research from such a massive beneficiary base could provide valuable insights for improving healthcare delivery models in developing nations.
